Alaska hunts wolves as offers to public go unanswered
Alaska officials continue a standing offer to place wolves with other states, but no takers have appeared. Biologists are aerially shooting wolves to reduce a population of about 8,000 to 12,000, with about 85 killed since mid February at a cost of roughly 1000 dollars per wolf. Governor Hammond defends the program while critics decry wildlife protection concerns.
