Phillips Blowout Capping Fails Amid Upside Down Device

Phillips officials revealed a blowout preventer was installed upside down at the North Sea well. The seven man team faced repeated failures as oil pressure surpassed the 4,000 psi test, reopening rams and blowing oil into the sea. Capping Well Efforts Fail To Stop Ekofisk Oil Flow

Engineers attempted hydraulic Ram closures on the Ekofisk well to insert a four ton capping assembly and pump mud to halt flow. Each of three attempts broke the rams as oil continued to surge at the field.

Columbia Gas of Ohio reports shutting off 680 customers since April after a winter moratorium ended. Cincinnati Gas & Electric reports 2,147 shutoffs with 635 reconnected after payment talks.
