FDA bans DES growth implants in cattle and sheep
The FDA ordered a ban on all uses of the livestock growth drug DES in beef cattle and sheep including ear implants effective Friday. Implants already used and meat from treated animals may be marketed. The move follows evidence of illegal residues and DES cancer risk, with alternatives available to curb rising meat prices.
