Cities Rally Over Gilligan Budget In Ohio Legislature
Columbus AP Gov. John Gilligan’s 9.1 billion budget draws attention from both houses and a mayoral delegation. House Speaker Charles Kurfess schedules talks Tuesday on city aid while officials argue the plan aids cities via welfare education and mental health funds. Senate Finance hearings run today and tomorrow as three House panels probe the budget. Lawmakers flag a 1.6 billion tax increase as potentially unconstitutional, noting variability in tax rates due to income dependents age home values and property taxes.
