In San Angelo Texas an elephant named Henrieta went berserk near a truck in a shopping center lot. Bystanders watched as trainer Earl Tillman was injured and James John Orr, 67, was killed by the animal. The elephant was restrained after the incident.
In Vientiane Laos the government formally accepts a joint British Soviet cease-fire proposal and hopes for a noon Wednesday halt. Prince Souvanna Phouma welcomed the plan as a peace meeting for all factions set for Saturday at Xieng Khouang with a 14 nation Geneva conference to follow May 12.
