Hamilton earns Tree City status in Ohio
Hamilton has been named a Tree City USA community after nearly five years of effort. The award, presented in Fairfield, joins 32 Southwest Ohio communities and requires a tree board or forestry staff, a care ordinance, an active program with at least 2 per capita in annual budget, and an Arbor Day celebration. Hamilton spends about 120000 yearly on tree care, recently planted 25 trees at Booker T. Washington Community Center, and plans ongoing programs and a new nursery at Greenwood Cemetery to expand urban forest efforts.
