Social Security raises 6.4 percent for 36.3 million beneficiaries
The government announced a 6.4 percent cost of living increase starting with July checks for 36.3 million Social Security and Supplemental Security Income recipients. Average retired worker benefits rise from $204 to $218, with 65 year old maximum up to $387.30 and minimum to $107.90. SSI payments also increase from $157.70 to $167.80 for individuals and from $236.60 to $251.80 for couples, subject to state supplements.
