Middletown Flood Fears Subside as New Levees Hold

Rains pushed the Miami River toward flood stage in Middletown with the river at 17 feet. The Verity Park Levee and a new 12 to 15 foot barrier, under construction, kept the city from overtopping. The Germantown Dam and Twin Creek project, part of the Miami Conservancy District led by Gov. Cox and engineer Arthur Morgan, are credited with preventing a repeat of 1913. The $30 million plan, targeting completion in 1922, will include five dams to control the river.
