Korea Okays Parley in Geneva Talks
President Syngman Rhee announced Korea will attend the Geneva conference opening next week and warned it is a final attempt at peaceful unification. He said if talks fail, Korea cannot sit idly by while Communist forces exterminate or exile Koreans or threaten a Red Chinese province. Ambassador You Chang Yang said the United States would greatly aid Korea’s army and aim to remove Chinese Communist troops, with unification as a primary goal. Pyun Yung Tai, Seoul’s foreign minister, insisted on unification and removal of aggressors, opposing any buffer zone north of the Yalu River.
