Rudolf Serkin paused during Beethovens Fifth Concerto at the University of Miami as the piano pedals failed two thirds into the performance before 3000 attendees. Conductor Fabien Levitsky explained the pause and cellist piano tuner Israel Greenfield, aided by maintenance staff, reattached the pedals so Serkin resumed from the start and received a standing ovation.
Irene D Ambrosio found a lipstick message in the Astor Diner ladies room calling for help and claiming a kidnapping.
