London AP reports Britain’s general election may focus on two issues the economy and the country’s role in easing East West tensions. Prime Minister Anthony Eden called elections for May 6, signaling a pivotal campaign period.
About 25 000 textile workers in Maine Massachusetts Rhode Island and Vermont walk out over wage demands amid a broader South strike wave. Some 37 mills have renewed contracts while others reject a 10 cent an hour cut as violence and sabotage claims emerge near Nashville and railroad hubs.
Hayati Karashahin a former Turkish army captain was hanged today for spying for the Soviet Union. The execution occurred as several hundred spectators watched the due process in Ankara after he was convicted of turning military secrets over to Moscow.
