39 Crewmen Rescued From Sea

Coast Guard crews salvaged 39 crewmen from the 8,294 ton Liberty ship Marine Merchant after it split in two in rough seas 40 miles southeast of Portland Maine. Nine were taken by the British motor vessel Daru and 26 by the tanker Esso Raleigh en route to Boston.
