Since the 1960s catfish farming expanded mainly in Mississippi and Arkansas with others from Florida to Kansas. Yields of 1 200 to 1 600 pounds per acre and net returns of 70 to 250 dollars per acre are reported. Farms use 20 acre surface ponds and 8 ponds per unit.
