Attorney Pursues New Evidence in Chessman Case

Pauley denies report on Democratic convention fundraising

Oilman Edwin W. Pauley rejected claims he threatened donors over convention fundraising and said he had sent a letter to an attorney rather than to contributors. Mark Boyar said $300,000 of $450,000 is raised and Treasury okayed tax deductibility. Pauley resigned last fall after a dispute with Democratic leaders over ticket allocation.

Seattle Tremor Shakes City No Damage Reported

A minor Seattle tremor lasted about two minutes and caused light sways with no damage. University of Washington seismologist Dr Frank Neumann logged the quake at 10 47 40 p m and rated it low five on the Mercalli scale.

Wyoming rancher and family found dead in basement

In Weston Wyoming the bodies of rancher Mike Mader 38 his wife Betty 30 and children Myra 8 and Mike 6 were found shot in the head with a 30 30 rifle. Sheriff McGee investigated and a relative found the bodies after a visit. A source said Mader had recent nervous breakdown treatment.
