Ohio budget plan trims income taxes and expands local levies

Ohio House Republicans unveiled a $51 billion budget that mirrors Gov. Taft’s tax changes but eases some cuts. It would slash personal income taxes, halt a penny sales tax increase, prevent any school district funding loss, and let voters raise levies annually. The plan restores Medicaid dental and vision care, reduces county cuts if consolidations are studied, but cities and libraries still face reductions. Democrats argued the measure favors the wealthy while offering little relief to low earners.
