AP NBC poll shows 10 year progress views differ by race. About half of whites say blacks are much or slightly better off, while only 20 percent of blacks share the much better off view. Whites and blacks diverge on future optimism and on integration support.
In Beverly Hills a 58 room mansion owned by a 22 year old Saudi architecture student, al Fassi, is under a wild renovation that includes bright green exteriors, red orange inside walls, gold window sunbursts, and millions spent on copper tile and black stone walls. Neighbors report traffic jams and shock at nude and religious murals, with his wife Dena al Fassi and two babies described as part of a newly found Middle Eastern wealth wave in Trousdale Estates.
Hancho O Kim, a Korea born businessman and Findlay College board member, was convicted by a federal jury of conspiring to bribe congressmen and lying about it under oath. He faces up to five years per count and a $10,000 fine, with sentencing set for May 19.
Michael Townley an Iowa native and longtime Chile resident was expelled by Chilean authorities and flown to the United States amid pressure from Washington. He faced immediate arrest on arrival in New York and was sought as a material witness in the 1976 assassination of Orlando Letelier. Townley had lived in Chile since age 14 and had pleaded to stay. The FBI hopes he will name associates linked to the bombing.
