Washington researchers at University of Massachusetts report pulsars racing faster than galaxy escape velocity.12 pulsars observed at speeds from 30 miles per second to 1.25 million miles per hour four reach the top speed, far exceeding earth and light- year scales.

In Moscow AP reports the United States and the Soviet Union reached a preliminary accord on on site inspection of peaceful nuclear explosions. An earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale struck along the Colombian west coast, collapsing many buildings in Esmeraldas, Ecuador.
