Sen. John Pastore says the CIA should resume efforts to raise a sunken Soviet submarine from the Pacific floor. He noted the agency made significant discoveries when it previously raised part of the vessel and hinted at gains from the operation.
North Vietnamese forces pressed the Xuan Loc area as the South Vietnamese army faced a possible major test after retreating from northern and central provinces. She has raised about 123000 dollars in two days and seeks Saigon exit visas aided by U S Agency for International Development officials. Plans include transporting the children to Fort Benning Georgia where a post nursery is prepared.

A Minnesota Senate subcommittee unanimously approves a bill taxing taconite tailings dumped into any lake. Reserve Mining Co. discharges up to 67 000 tons daily into Lake Superior and would be the sole affected firm. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Gene Stokowski, sets 50 cents per ton up to 33 500 dollars daily, rising to 1 dollar per ton from July 1 1976.
Cloudy skies and mid-30s lows are forecast in Middletown with a chance of rain and highs near 60 on Thursday. In Minnesota, Stokowski urged a sub-committee to push Reserve toward on land disposal, as the state fights a lake discharge case and negotiates a landfill site amid mining waste rules. Five other northern taconite plants already dispose on land and would be unaffected by the fee.
