New York Passes Work for Welfare Law Package
The New York Legislature approved a 10 bill welfare reform package to require able bodied recipients to work in public projects in exchange for benefits. It also establishes a statewide payment standard and tightens control over the welfare system. The measures, signed by Gov. Rockefeller, aim to curb costs and require resident identification for recipients with changes set to take effect in July.
