A U S Navy task force retrieved a 20 megaton hydrogen bomb missing since the January 17 B 52 collision over Palomares Beach. Prominent Ohioans Die in Masters Flight Crash
Two Columbus couples en route to watch Jack Nicklaus at the Masters were killed when their twin engine plane crashed near Elizabethton Tennessee. The victims included Bar ton and his wife and James Kettler Long and his wife. Nicklaus, informed of the tragedy, said the loss is a shock as friends. Investigators from the FAA began a probe into the crash which eyewitnesses say occurred on one engine and then nose dived after losing power on the second. The plane struck a car, burst into flames, and cartwheeled into a plowed field near a farm home. The families were longtime sports enthusiasts and associates of Nicklaus. The story also notes past connections of the victims to Columbus figures and Ohio State sports medicine.
