Fremont Ohio The Sandusky County Automobile Club which handles license tags warned motorists repeatedly to attach new tags. The club forfeited a $10 bond in Mayor C W Baxter s court for failing to install 1961 tags on the car it uses for driver training in city schools.

Fire destroys Wintersville furniture store in Ohio town

A $100,000 blaze destroyed Cribbs Town and Country Furniture on Ohio 43 in Wintersville eight miles west of Steubenville. Firefighters from Wintersville, Steubenville and Richmond battled for 22 hours, preventing spread to nearby buildings. No injuries were reported. The fire damaged an overhead telephone line affecting Amsterdam, Richmond and Bergholz customers. 240 local residents lost service with restoration not expected until late today.

12 Hours Before Death DiSalle Spares Rutherford Life

Richard Rutherford, 27, of Bridgeport, was spared from execution by commutation to life imprisonment by Gov. Michael V. DiSalle barely 12 hours before his scheduled electrocution for the 1957 first degree murder of Lawrence Price during a holdup. The governor cited new statements by key witness Mrs. Loos Tamburi and testimony from Cleveland lawyers as factors.

Kentucky Tot 3 Drowns In Ohio River

A three year old Ludlow girl died in the Ohio River after disappearing while a father reported her missing. Her brother Mike and friend Dick Day found the body minutes later as Ludlow police were notified. The tragedy occurred Thursday.

Paris Police Hunt Rebel Terrorists in Hospital Raid

Paris police swept nationwide against Algerian and French extremists as rebels clash with factions. In Montfermeil a hospital raid left two dead and twelve wounded, including a girl, Martine Petit, seven, and a father and mother among the hurt.
