Finland Will Remain Independent Under New Treaty Pact

Finnish coalition parties total 200 members with 51 Popular Democrats 48 Social Democrats 48 Agrarians 29 Conservatives 15 Swedish party and nine Liberals forming the government bloc. The treaty guarantees Finland’s territorial independence if either nation is attacked by Germany or allies. Finnish forces stay within borders while Russia may aid by mutual consent. Russia will intervene only by invitation and not become a base for aggression against Finland. The accord preserves mutual nonalignment with no alliance against the other and cements economic cultural ties. Leading Finns call it the best possible under current conditions maintaining independence while joining the eastern bloc and exclude participation in the European Recovery Plan.
