About 30,000 Chinese gathered in Tian An Men Square in a mass show of anger over the removal of wreaths honoring Premier Chou Enlai. The crowd clashed with militiamen earlier, with reports of fist fights and fires set to three cars. The gathering followed Chou’s death and amid tension over Teng Hsiao ping’s political position.
