Saigon reports 5,557 Viet Cong deserted last month, nearly double February’s 2,917, as ground fighting in South Vietnam continues in scattered clashes. U.S. and allied forces describe numerous engagements, including a two-man reconnaissance unit killing nine VC 33 miles southwest of Tuy Hoa.
The Post Office fined nine railroads a total of 127000 dollars since January for delaying mails, with punishments ranging from two thousand five hundred to thirty five thousand dollars. The drive followed a review of train schedules as passenger service declines and mail transport shifts to trucks.
