PITTSBURGH USW and basic steel industry resume contract talks today with a May 1 strike deadline looming. USW Treasurer J W Abel says he believes an agreement can be reached before that date and that talk of extending the deadline is premature. Abel spoke in Washington on Saturday assessing progress and industry interest.
Army Specialist 4 Sir Martin of Warren Ohio and another soldier Riley of Kansas were killed Saturday when their car collided with a Union Pacific freight train in Junction City Kansas. Martin is survived by his wife Edith June and a daughter in Warren.
