Three-Phase Reserve Callup Totals Around 60000 Men
Defense officials outlined a three phase mobilization plan totaling about 60000 reserve troops over coming months to support the Vietnam war. Initial orders will add a few thousand within days to reach the 13500 authorized, with a second phase replacing a Marine unit and a third phase replenishing the strategic reserve. Most of the 13500 will be Army, plus Navy construction units and Air National Guard, with 7000 to 8000 cited for the second phase. The 27th Marine Regiment may rotate home, while the 82nd Airborne stays in Vietnam as the Khe Sanh threat eases.
