About 150 people attend the Friday event with delegations from Ellenville Middletown Goshen and Port Jervis. Port Jervis men Joseph Brown and John Quincy Adams and Goshen's Charles Hunter caused a disturbance by displaying weapons. Brown and Adams receive ten days each and Hunter thirty days in Goshen jail.
Small-pox cases rise rapidly from seventy four to one hundred fifteen between March 16 and March 24. Nine unvaccinated, six re vaccinated, rest not re vaccinated since childhood. Newburgh Board of Health acts to curb spread with free vaccination. Health Officer Gordon vaccinated thirty five. It may be our turn next.

Messrs. Wheeler Maiden and Clemson tested a patent extinguisher at their works this afternoon to equip pocket fire companies. The device, about the size of an eight year old boy, can be carried anywhere on the premises and emits a stream for several minutes by inherent force.
The Directors and Officers of the Road along with invited guests plan an experimental trip by rail on Monday, traveling from Hackensack New Jersey to Middletown aboard the Midland line.
The Midland Railway Company held its annual meeting in Oswego on March 27 with Theodore Houston as secretary and H O Moss chairing. President Littlejohn reported a strong financial condition, completion of the Sha wangunk tunnel at 3869 feet, and a cost underrun of 371000. The New Jersey section to start April first and connections to Lake Shore Road and Collingwood steamers were noted. Trains to begin by April, with expected rapid progress and dividends, while Erie opposition to crossing was overcome. Officers elected: DeWitt C Littlejohn president, E P Wheeler vice president, Theodore Houston secretary, W M Conkey treasurer.

A Hudson saloon keeper allegedly horse whipped a woman who sought her drunken husband at his establishment. The incident sparked calls that the keeper ought to be hanged and that Hudson gentlemen should act to punish him.
Port Jervis resident Port Jervis Alitele son of D Doremus on the Eastern Division sustained a severe eye injury when a stick struck it forcing removal of the eye. The village Board approves a 772 dollar survey and map project for the current year. In Sugar Loaf Dr A P Farries fell on a New York sidewalk fracturing his leg below the knee. His brother Dr R Farries transported him to Harlem after surgery.
At the Bowed Directors quarterly meeting in Warwick on March 19 Richard Wisner was elected to fill a vacancy. A separate gathering planned to organize a society protecting game and fish near Greenwood Lake amid reports of illegal seine and netting. A local dispute over gunfire near Mr Wanwermaker prompted denials of an attempted shooting.
In Newburgh, the Weat Newburgh M. E. Church received a ground plot from William R Brown and Charles L Brown for a parsonage site. Two brick-trade barges launched at Bulman Brown shipyard this week. Stephen King Co coal dealers placed a six by three foot two ton and three quarter coal sign at their office. The McManus propeller, carrying Charles Spear to New York, burned at Pier 35 North River. insured for 25000 dollars. Chester public schools to be examined next week before a one week vacation.
Otisville public school will observe a two weeks vacation. Mr. C. J. Baxter is hired for the coming year with an increased salary.
The Pennsylvania Legislature repeals the 4th section of the M. and M. Railroad charter allowing a $10,000 annual State payment for 99 years. A Supreme Court test is expected as opponents call the payment unconstitutional. One installment has been paid and a suit for recovery is under way. Negotiations finalize for a five line consolidation forming a 350 mile system from New York to Rutland with routes in Dutchess, Columbia, and Putnam counties.
