June 18 reports say Joseph Brailly of 282 Washington St found drowned in Muchattoes Lake after 48 hours in water. Coroner confirms cause. crowd feared kidnapping amid Italian community alarm.
Workers on the Gray Building at James and King streets caused a tar vat blaze at 11:20 AM. A general alarm sent fire units from box 26. Eagle Hose Company fought the flames from the roof while spectators jammed streets near the theater district.
Rome reports Chinese bands captured Father Malotio missionary near Hankow and abducted about 500 Chinese converts. Ransom of 1 million dollars demanded with threats to kill the priest if not paid at once. Pope Pius XII dispatched Father Leufers to Hankow to seek peace between Catholics and captors.

Nail Collins, 54, of 33 Maple Terrace, slipped while crossing the Erie railroad tracks at 5:25 pm yesterday. He struck his head, sustaining cuts over the left eye and nose and was treated by Dr. H. J. Shelley.
In Newark New Jersey June 18 Mrs Mary F Creighton faces murder charges for allegedly poisoning her brother Charles Raymond Avery to secure life insurance. Her husband John Creighton is charged as an accomplice and the elder Mrs Creighton is suspected in a separate murder of her mother in law with poisons found in an exhumed body.

A touring car owned and driven by a New York youth ran off a steep grade on the Greenwood Lake Warwick road late Saturday night. The car turned over, threw the driver clear, and burned completely, with the sole occupant escaping unharmed.
Eyewitnesses describe a flagrant speed excess as a touring car and motorcycle with sidecar roared through Bloomingburg on the Liberty highway. The motorcycle overturned near Justice Seybok’s residence. a man and a young woman were rescued with non fatal injuries. Aaron T Rossignal of Clarendon Virginia died after diving from a plane wing into the Potomac River. He planned to practice diving from aircraft as part of a keipath of 60 feet, and he had spoken to the pilot about the stunt before takeoff.

Major Daugherty N. Daugherty son of the Attorney General escaped Stamford Mamford Hall Sanitarium by boarding a passing car. He had been admitted to recover from gassing in France and nervous strain from a busy career in New York. No trace was found and police were not yet involved as the case is considered private.
