Theodore D Delevan Wilson born May 11 1840 Brooklyn served from civil war rising to chief naval constructor in 1872 until health decline prompted leave of absence. He died suddenly in Boston from heat stroke while supervising Passaic docking. Survived by widow two daughters and two sons.

Also listed are recent National League games and scores from New York Brooklyn Baltimore Boston Philadelphia and Chicago cities.
Rescue efforts at the Pittston mine continued amid rising water and continual roof collapses. Officials fear the Twin shaft entrance may be sealed within 24 hours, with no chance of rescuing the entombed miners.

United States commercial agent Walter T. Grit reports the death of American Charles Field Kawunad in Limoges aged 63. Kawunad, who moved to Limoges in 1850s, built a business ties with Gina goods and died at his country seat near Limoges. Post notices also announce a temporary shutdown of Tem ber ton mills in Lawrence Mississippi from July 4 to September 4 for improvements. Wemier ton mills are largely owned by the Nevins family of Boston.
Wharton Barker, a declared presidential candidate, argues that restoring silver to the money standard is essential to curb gold inflation and defend the producing classes. He accuses gold advocates of confiscation and urges Democrats, Populists, and Republicans to unite behind a silver platform.
