Brewing Company Incorporated in Middletown North Carolina has formed the Orange County Brewing Company and bought a site for a 75000 dollar brewery to be built immediately. Officers named include Theodore Reinecke as president and GM Theodore Reinecke Jr as VP Philip Schauble as treasurer and Otto Schauble as secretary all from Elizabeth New Jersey.
In Augusta on June 23 a collapsed or buckled pair of empty ice houses and a nearby house owned by Cony White & Haynes were involved, with an insurance claim of 98,000 and a policy of 1,000 cited.
In Wallingford Connecticut on June 23 a hay wagon carrying two men and five children was struck by freight train No 272 at Ward Street crossing. John Hoffman and his 8 year old daughter Annie died. Frank Russell 33 sustained head injuries and seven others including two 8 year olds 6 and 4 suffered cuts and fractures. The train, run by Conductor James Daly and Engineer J F Burke, traveled about 15 miles per hour. Russell claimed no warning was heard as the wagon was struck and upended on the crossing.
The saloon and second class passengers of the Colombian liner Finance, held at Hoffman Island for observation, are well. They will not be released until five days after exposure. Hoffman Island passengers are cheerful, awaiting discharge by Saturday the 26th. Three yellow fever patients at Swinburne Island receive careful care and are progressing favorably.
Judge Butler in federal court heard Assistant US Attorney McCullen seek removal of Herbert J. Krenrich to Buffalo. Krenrich, arrested in York Pa, faces charges over 38000 dollars misappropriation from Standwick National Bank Rome NY. principal George W. Barnard died by suicide in 1994. Krenrich to Buffalo Friday. Also Paris file reports the body of Miss Well of Philadelphia found in the Seine. remains to be interred in Hebrew cemetery after consent of her father Ming Weil.
In Denver on June 22 the Boliday Statute was repealed for five years, making Colorado the only state not to recognize the Fourth of July Thanksgiving Christmas New Year Washingtons Birthday and Memorial Day as legal holidays. The discovery arose from a late legislature act on negotiable instruments, reducing holidays to Arbor Day Labor Day and the Saturday half holiday.
Two newly built gun boats Newport and Wickshbure arrived at the Portsmouth navy yard in tow of tugboats. Commander Worry and Boatman Hudson will assist at Charleston yard. Both vessels planned for commission by September 10 with the Newport to be transformed into a training ship.
