Johnson Cannot Raise the Cash Challenge for $1000

Albany June 6 Tom Eck said Johnson challenged Zimmerman on June 1 to race for 1000 a side within three weeks at Waltham, Mass or any mutually known track. Eck says Zimmerman is the champion and the one to be challenged. Johnson has only 1000 to pony up and Zimmerman knows it. Zimmerman has trained at Asbury Park to gain advantage.

Sultan of Johore Dear Enlightened Malay Monarch Dies in London

The sultan Abu Baka of Johore, a hereditary Malay ruler and ally of Britain, died in London after visiting England. Born in 1835, he governed a state that ceded Singapore to Stamford Raffles’ era and maintained cordial ties with the British against piracy. He was renowned for his amiable appearance and deputy-like role in eastern Asia’s affairs.

Riot act used as Millville clashes halt trolley move

New Jersey Reforms Cut State Jobs and Printing Costs

Senate approved measures to trim officers and employees saving an estimated 75 000 to 100 000 annually by reducing state printing costs and consolidating contracts for laws and journals. LANCASTER Pa Jane 1 Jacob Fisher and Elizabeth Fisher of Rohrerstown celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary Monday in a large ceremony. Obstinate Prisoner Released From Conestoga Jail

Jacob Good a wealthy farmer of Conestoga township was discharged from jail after about a year and a half for contempt of court. He refused to pay 8900 to his sister despite auditors finding she was entitled. He said he would rather stay jailed than pay, and bondsmen later paid the money, paving the way for a big redress.
