Kingston Jamaica February 2 A Cuban party landed Sunday near Santiago province and routed Spanish troops in a decoy retreat. The convoy reached a secure position and the expedition proceeds toward Garcia fortifying the Oriente army for the Weyler Gomez conflict.

Dr Bullard said the condition had improved wonderfully and he would leave the hospital before many days. Ex-Queen Liliuokalani of Hawaii who paid a second visit to the White House yesterday afternoon will visit the Capitol again this afternoon. She was received by the president last week and told he wished to see Mrs Cleveland, who sent word she would be glad to meet her informally. Yesterday afternoon at 4 45 oclock was set for the audience, before the regular 5 oclock reception began.

The new debt statement reports a $15,058,735 net increase in the public debt during January and a cash balance in the treasury of $858,553,910.
London reports the Yokohama trial of Mrs. Carew, wife of Walter Raymond Hallo well Carew, secretary of the Yokohama United club, ending in a first degree murder conviction for arsenic poisoning. The case drew England's interest, detailing a veiled suspicion, a romance with Mr Dickenson, and a later discovery of a vanished letter concealed in a sleeve trimming. Albany Feb 2 William Watson of Rome filed a claim against New York State for 10000 for injuries from a canal boat under the Genesee street bridge in Utica in October as the bridge was not raised high enough and part of the boat he worked in was torn away. He seeks damages.
