Sanger at Charleston Embarks for Cuba This Afternoon

Brigadier General Sanger arrives in Charleston with 8 staff, 4 attendants, 37 nurses, and the Twelfth New York volunteers totaling 1,500. They will board the transport Manitoba for Matanzas, Cuba, as loading begins. General Bates and the Sixth Ohio volunteers arrive from Knoxville to join on the Dewindaska for Cienfuegos. The journey from Columbus was ten Pullman trains.

Morrill Dies at 88 Long Senatorial Career Ended

Justin S Morrill of Vermont, senior U S senator and longtime House member, died at 1 25 am in his eighty ninth year after a brief illness of grip that developed into pneumonia. He served in Congress from 1834 and in the Senate from 1867 until his death, a dean of the chamber and a finance committee stalwart retained in public service through weathered years. Funeral plans were not yet set, with services likely in the Senate chamber and interment at Rock Creek Cemetery before possible removal to Strafford Vermont for mausoleum work.

Murderer Denham Held With $11000 Reward

Noted murderer said to be James C. Dunham in custody in Columbus. A reward of $11,000 dead or alive is posted at San Jose, California. Dunham allegedly killed seven people at a farmhouse between San Jose and Los Gatos in 1896, including a baby. He used the name Harry Wilson then claimed Harry Church. He faces questions as authorities pursue the case.

Greek government hunts brigand said to be Farantos in court

In New York a Greek crowd gathered at Yorkville court as Michael Ferrando faces assault and robbery charges. Witnesses identify Ferrando with the famed brigand So teros D. Fatal Shooting During Rabbit Hunt in New York

Frederick Art, a farmer, was accidentally shot and killed yesterday in Seahanienburg near Fort Lee New Jersey by his brother Jacob Art during rabbit hunting. Jacob had two charges in his gun and meant to hand the weapon to Frederick when he slipped. The shot struck Frederick over the kidneys and he died within minutes.

Mercedes Garcia Dead Daughter of Cuban General Dies in Georgia

In Thomasville Georgia Mise Mercedes Garcia daughter of the late Calixto Garcia died last evening at the Pineywoods hotel from consumption. She arrived with her two daughters as General Garcia died in Washington and the telegram about his death was not revealed. The Garcia family members present were at her bedside. the body will be embalmed and sent to Cuba aboard the United States steamer Dolphin to return General Garcia’s remains.
