A junk dealer examined Steele’s property near a barn noting a barrel of rubbish valued at 1 dollar, and a dispute over iron worth 29 dollars in mixed coins and three pierces.
In Springfield Dee the Republican Henry S Dickinson won re election as mayor over Colonel John T ter by 11 votes. The Republicans swept the aldermen school committee and five of eighteen council seats. Other listed aldermen include G D Robinson H Atuligan B D OL Gilmore and Ralph W Fills. At Atlanta Governor Atkinson vetoed a bill banning match or prize football games with admission fees, saying the matter should stay with college faculties.
Ex-minister Hannis Taylor criticizes the presidents Cuban policy noting the failure to end the island’s three year conflict. He argues Sagasta’s autonomy plan is an empty illusion and that both cabinets seek to thwart the national will. He calls for genuine home rule and warns against deceptive concessions.
