New York December 81 weary Haigh and David L Kellam brokers are jailed on conspiracy charges. Complainant I. B. Simmons of Tacoma claims damages totaling 51001. Simmons, president of the Prosser Falls and Priest Rapids Canal company, accuses the defendants of victimizing him.
Iky Kinard a Negeen convicted of raping Mrs Bank knight near this city over a year ago will hang unless the governor interferes. The supreme court yesterday dismissed an appeal for a new trial. Kinard, an old negro, faces doubt about his guilt from many locals.
Nineteen men are engaged in a city endurance contest. A parallel 33 is offered to the one who stays awake the entire week. Watchers observe the participants as a bell rings when a sitter dozes. If he fails to wake, he is counted out.

Believed murdered for thirty dollars, two men, Edward Jordan and Lewis Jergoy, are suspected. Clothing on the victim matched his last wearing. The case ties to a broader investigation with officials preparing findings for Commissioner Linsom at Kingston.
The Essex county grand jury indicted six former freeholders for misdemeanor and gross negligence of official duties after they left office on December 1. Indicted are Patrick J. Lippon Arires Jin Owen A. Cohih Selamon Ouary Thomas H. Ripley and John J. Hanley. Ripley appeared in court and pleaded not guilty posting bail of ten thousand dollars.
Hastings callers from Philadelphia brought a committee of the National Firemen to press an interac of at phitfoust appropriation bill. The proposed measure would pension all disabled firemen. The funeral was noted and Governor Pattison had supported a similar bill two years earlier.
An escaped prisoner identified as Myers, under guard in a jail, broke away at the door as Deputy Wilkerson unlocked it and fled. Wilkerson fired three times, striking Myers, who was serving seven years for burglary. The incident occurred as the convict fled down the street.

The annual report of the board of managers of the national homes for disabled volunteer soldiers shows an aggregate average of 20 162 in the nations and state homes, with 23 444 cared for during the year. Comte Ferdinand de Lesseps, famed for spearheading the Suez Canal project, died yesterday at La Chemiere in Indre. Born November 12, 1805, he rose from diplomat to minister to Madrid and leader of canal ventures, later facing fraud trials that led to imprisonment for him and relatives. His later years saw fading memory, though he remained honorary president of the Suez Canal Company before his death.
