St Lucie Rescued After Atlantic Sinking Off Coast
Captain Henry Appleby and crew of the American bark St Lucie, bound from New York to Brazil, were rescued by the British steamship Orthia after the vessel capsized and sank in the Atlantic. Survivors include Chief Mate William Parks and nine others. seaman Henry Heymeyer drowned when lifeboat overturned. Vessel owned by J W Elwell & Co of New York. Northwestern Mining Buys 7000 Acre Coal Tract In DuBois
In DuBois Pennsylvania on December 2 1900 the Northwestern Mining and Exchange company completed a coal deal creating a coal trust with Rochester and Pittsburg and Berwynd White by acquiring more than 7000 acres of premier bituminous land. The sale amount was not disclosed. Also noted Charles Gould praised for aiding US Cuban evacuation efforts and a transport run aground story near Nuevitas Cuba with troops moving onward.
