Newport R I Aug 12 The Dupont a 2714 knot class torpedo boat built by Herreshoff completed a 69 mile trial in Narragansett Bay achieving an average speed of 23.58 knots on the first run and 28.41 knots across four runs with a final two hour effort reaching 85.53 knots per hour. A vacuum loss during the third leg caused concern but engines steadied and the craft finished the test ready for transfer to the navy.
