Retired Episcopal Bishop Dies in Cleveland
The Rt. Rev. Edward Thomas Demby, retired Suffragan Bishop of the Arkansas and other Southwestern dioceses, died in a private nursing home in Cleveland. Funeral services were held Thursday at Trinity Cathedral with Bishop Nelson Burroughs officiating. Demby, a noted church leader and former newspaper editor, had ties to Florida and Key West, and was the sole Negro bishop in the Episcopal Church. The notice also mentions an engagement of Jane W. Seven Miamians Drown in Tamiami Canal Plunge
A Florida highway tragedy near Royal Palm Hammock early Sunday left seven Miamians dead after their car plunged into the Tamiami Canal. Victims include three women, three men, and an eight month old boy. The rear car, driven by Simmons, swerved into a palm tree and flipped into four feet of water.
