In New Orleans five African American candidates qualified for the January 15 Democratic primary to seek Orleans Parish seats in the Louisiana house. They are Robert Dela houssaye Carroll Bolden Joseph Jones Dr T R Williams and Mrs Emoris Rollins. Also Kermit Parker a New Orleans pharmacist is among ten Democrats running for governor, first Black candidate in the race.

Jaycees fete 100 children in Dade County program

Kendall Florida October 13 Miami Negro and Miami Beach Junior Chamber of Commerce Youth Welfare Committees hosted a day of fun for 100 children from the Dade County Children's Home. Activities included visits to Rare Bird Farm and Virginia Beach, prizes for foot races, a movie, snacks, and comic books. The event launches a long range rehabilitation effort with plans for future group visits and a requested television set for the home recreation hall.

Dade Mayors Seek Housing Solution

County commissioners call all mayors to a courthouse meeting on October 25 at 10 a.m. to tackle the Negro housing problem. Florida State Cancels Bradley Game Over Negro Players

Florida State University canceled a November 24 football game with Bradley University in Tallahassee rather than include Negro players. Bradley athletic director A J Bergstrom said Negroes are on the team for the first time, and he could not participate otherwise. The two teams had a return game in Peoria next year. Bradley is in the Missouri Valley Conference.
