Two Die In Auto Bus Collision In Miami

Clarence Gorom aged 39 and Herbert Gallon six were killed when a car driven by Lamar Gallon struck a Miami Transit Co bus at 10th Avenue and 36th Street. Gallon was rushing his pregnant sister-in-law to Jackson Memorial Hospital when the crash occurred around 2 a.m. The woman suffered facial cuts and the baby was born. Gorom and the infant were turned over to funeral home. other occupants were injured.

Miami Hosts 33rd Legion Meet With Diverse Delegations

The 33rd annual American Legion convention opens October 15 to 18 in Miami. Delegations from more than a dozen states attend with Key West requesting 40 seats. Negro units and delegates arrive in mixed units, staying at Miami and Miami Beach hotels. Beach events start Monday with a Calvert distiller sponsored dance and barbecue at Virginia Beach. Transportation from 909 NW 2nd Ave. runs every half hour from 1 p.m. Activities include dancing, swimming, and dining under canopies. Joseph Makell of Calvert handles Negro personnel and beach plans, with many Calvert staff present. A mammoth parade is planned for Tuesday at 4 p.m. on Biscayne Boulevard. tickets for bleacher seats at $2.50. The parade will feature 100+ musical and marching organizations and conclude with General Douglas MacArthur reviewing the procession.

Walter White Set to Address State NAACP Meeting

Florida NAACP branches plan their 11th annual state meeting in Daytona Beach from November 28 to 25 with Walter White of New York as guest speaker. White, longtime NAACP official, is credited with leading the organization to national prominence. Scouts Meet With National Director

The Interracial Committee of the South Florida Council of Boy Scouts of America and the Divisional Committee chaired by Dr. K L Pharr held a meeting Thursday to hear National Director Weaver Marr from New York on Florida scouting. The group set a 1951 goal of 1500 scouts by December 31, needing 392 new members in 60 days, and planned training courses and troop expansion across Miami.
