Thurgood Marshall to Speak at Miami Sunday

Thurgood Marshall, chief legal counsel of the NAACP, will address a Miami NAACP branch meeting at Greater Bethel AME Church on Sunday November 24 at four o clock. He is known as Mr Civil Rights for landmark NAACP victories. Others on the program include Rabbi Yaakov Rosenberg and state legislator John B Orr Jr. The Southland Singers will provide a musical prelude.

Liberia mission chief Pinder returns to the United States

Frank E. Pinder, chief United States agriculturist with the American Mission to Liberia, and Major Jean Pinder of the U Health Service have returned to the United States after 14 years in Liberia. Frank Pinder, a Key West native, headed a full agricultural program praised by Agriculture and State Department officials and by President Tubman. Jean Pinder, noted for public health work in Liberia, will study at the University of Indiana before further assignment, likely wherever her husband is sent.

White Youth Confesses Death in Hit and Run

A 16 year old white youth confessed to being the driver in a fatal hit and run that killed Luther Oliphant, age 6, who died from injuries after being struck at NW 18th Ave and 75th St. Harry Shires, 16, of 7511 NE 3rd Ct, identified by sheriff's investigator Richard Gldwell, is the suspect. Shires is the son of Earl Shires, Miami detective, and had been living with his mother, Mrs. Louise Kelly.

Bethune Cookman to Honor Ray Robinson at Homecoming

Bethune Cookman College president Dr R V Moore announced boxing great Ray Robinson will receive the Mary McLeod Bethune Memorial Award for sports contributions. He will be honored at halftime of the homecoming football game versus Allen University on November 28 in Memorial Stadium, with 2:30 kickoff.
