Gunman Who Shot Wife Sought by Police

James Glover husband of Addie Glover is being sought by Miami police after allegedly shooting his wife during a late night argument in their 1309 NW Third Avenue apartment. Mrs. Glover was hospitalized in serious condition with neck and chest wounds. The couple married June 24 and had escalating domestic troubles. She had packed his clothes and ordered him to leave before the fatal argument.

Bus Segregation Here Nears End in Miami and Alabama

Miami NAACP filed a federal suit challenging city and state segregation laws against Miami Transit Co City of Miami and commissioners The case heads toward dismissal arguments and possible Supreme Court appeal Atty Graves said civil rights cases are expedited and the Miami transit firm claims compliance with state local race separation rules In Montgomery Alabama nearly 10 000 protesters voted to end mass resistance on buses after 345 days of demonstrations led by Rev Martin Luther King Jr The vote noted as ending the boycott and tensions are expected to shift to courts The report also notes unresolved issues over indigent burial by Negro funeral directors in Dade County and upcoming talks with county commissioners and ambulance service changes in colored areas

City moves to open school grounds after hours

A step to ease playground shortages in Liberty City involved an agreement between the School Board and the Miami City Commission to keep school play grounds open after school hours. The city will supervise after hours and City Manager E A Evans will seek volunteer patrols by Negro policemen during off hours.

Fire leaves 14 homeless in Liberty City

A onestory frame house at 2026 NW 71st St burned early Wednesday, displacing four adults and 10 children. Loss valued over 5000 dollars. Residents escaped through windows and seven children were taken to Kendall County Home. Red Cross provided financial aid, shelter, clothing, and food.

Arlington librarian fined for sitting beside a Negro

Faith Bissell a 43 year old white librarian was fined 15 for violating a Virginia segregation law by sitting beside a Negro at a public political meeting in Arlington County Court Judge Paul D. Brown imposed the fine and her attorney Edmund D. Campbell said he would appeal to the Circuit Court. The case tested segregation law and a possible Supreme Court ruling.

Two More Prisoners Break Legs in Protest at Rock Quarry

ATLANTA Two more convicts at Rock Quarry State Prison near Buford injured their legs Monday while pushing wheelbarrows. They seized sledge hammers and smashed their legs in a bitterness protest against the heavy workload. Earlier, a July 31 incident left 41 convicts with broken legs in the same prison nicknamed Little Alcatraz.
