One legged Eddie Thomas, 65, of Goulds, was acquitted by a Circuit court jury of first degree murder in the shooting death of F. C. Bruton, 30, a laborer from Goulds. Thomas admitted firing a .32 caliber bullet into Bruton's chest but claimed he acted only after Bruton moved as if to reach for a knife. He said he sought Bruton after his wife reported Bruton had been rummaging through their tavern quarters and had taken $108.
