Proponents of federally assisted slum clearance in Miami claim they have at least twice the required signatures to force a referendum. Canvassers faced police orders to stay 300 feet from polling places, delaying collection. If not hampered, organizers say they would have reached twice as many names. Petitions will be presented to City Clerk Correll for validity. if valid, certification within 10 days triggers a city referendum within 30 to 45 days.

Bandits Rob Howdy Bar Patrons in Early Sunday Holdup
Four masked bandits stormed the Howdy Bar at 1188 NW 62nd Street forcing patrons to close their eyes while they searched. They took 491 dollars in cash and valuables, including 150 dollars from the register and a 50 dollar watch from co-owner Lorema Sammon. Police cited threats and cursing as patrons were terrorized.

Lush Mother Leads Son To Death Attempt
A 15 year old boy, distressed by heavy drinking by his mother, tried to end his life by leaping from a bridge rail over the river. A Merrill Stevens shipyard worker rescued him. The boy, who earned $11.88 weekly, said he gave all but 50 cents to his mother for a school picnic, and she used the money for a drink. He is held for juvenile aid at Kendall pending investigation.

Dade County approves $12.5 million school bond plan
Voters in Dade County backed a 12.5 million bond to fund three year construction and rehabilitation of schools. About 80,000 residents cast ballots with all precincts approving, allocating roughly 4 million for new construction and equipment in Negro schools, enabling projects to begin early next year.

Auto crash leaves two injured and charged drivers
John King of 1742 NW 65th suffered a fractured left leg Monday night in a collision at South Dixie Highway and Bird Road. He was a passenger in a pickup driven by Charles Sharpe, 58, of NW First Court. Hollis B. Parker, 21, of SW 58th Avenue, drove the other vehicle. Both drivers were charged with reckless driving resulting in an accident.

Woman Arrested In Stab Murder
A first degree murder charge was filed Tuesday against Effie Sanders, 41, of 1608 NW 1st place, who was arrested Monday in connection with the slaying Sunday of John Willis Collins, 40, of the same address. Detective Neal Coston of the homicide bureau said Collins was stabbed with a butcher knife.

Negro Vote Decides Hot W. P. B. City Election
West Palm Beach voters faced a tight city commission runoff between Mayor W P Holland and Earl Gardner with 71 votes separating them. Gardner led earlier in a four way race with 5 152 votes to Holland 5 081, aided by over 1 000 votes last week. Early results shifted after tallies showed 400 Gardner votes in the Negro section changing the outcome. Gardner had called Holland later for comment.

American Legion Convention Set for October 1951
The American Legion announced its national convention will be held in October 1951 in Greater Miami after the national executive committee approved the bid in Indianapolis.
