Northwest Miami Jaycees Host Second Annual Banquet

The Northwest Miami Junior Chamber of Commerce and Auxiliary sponsor a Friday banquet at 8:30 pm in Douglas Elementary cafetorium with Charles L. Williams as castmaster and Dr. H. Franklin of the University of Miami as guest speaker on community leadership. Reservations at Fred's Sundries. A dance follows at 10:30 pm in the Mary Elizabeth Hotel Flamingo Room.

AME Mourns Bishop Fountain At Atlanta Death

Bishop A Fountain, a six decade church servant and builder in African Methodism, died after a prolonged illness in Atlanta. He served the AME church 63 years, retiring in 1952 as bishop and succeeding J B Flipper as senior bishop in 1944. Other prelates also died recently, with vacancies to be filled at the Miami General Conference.

Appre ciation Dinner for Rev Edward T Graham at Mt Zion

People from all walks of life will attend a community appreciation dinner at Mt Zion Baptist Church refectory on Monday night honoring Rev Edward T Graham a long time militant community leader and pastor. The event highlights his service since 1943 as a USO executive and his roles with the Negro Service Council the Miami Committee for Social Action the Greater Miami Ministerial Association and the Council of Social Agencies. The Grahamites club sponsors the dinner and Father Theodore Gibson will be toastmaster with leaders of both races ready to speak.

Brownsville Gambling Raids Bring Arrests

Brownsville deputies raided a beauty shop and a separate location in Brownsville last Saturday, arresting D. Holton and Maude Morton on $3,000 bonds, while 30 others fled. At 2705 NW 46th St officers seized 10 gallons of moonshine and a pile of numbers slips. Edgar Rogers was arrested as the tor with a $2,000 bond.

Tragic Shooting Claims Virginia Streeter in South Dade

Virginia Streeter, 2, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Streeter, died after a gun was fired while children played with it. Officials confirmed an accidental shooting, involving Virginia and her brother, amid a family of eight relying on wages. Meanwhile, a separate fatal crash on U S Highway No 1 near Kendall killed Evangeline Little and Debora McCormick as a speeding car collided with a utility pole. Mrs. McCormick survived with injuries.
