High Court Upholds Coco Sentence in Miami Beach Murder

Dade Delegation at TB Institute Honors Noted

The Dade County Tuberculosis Association is honored by the Florida Tuberculosis and Health Association. Be Bethune Cookman College hosts the annual Negro leaders institute March 3 to 5 in Daytona Beach. Mrs. Anne Gary of the local TB group will join two panel discussions on March 3 and 4, speaking on “Search light of TB.” Four delegates will attend the volunteer leadership center.

Nine Year Old Drowned In Northwest Rockpit

A nine year old boy, Joseph Sweats, was found drowned in an unguarded rockpit at NW 24th ave and 68th st. He was last seen Feb. 25 and attended Liberty City Elementary. Police and county investigators pursued identification. the nude body hindered recognition. An autopsy was planned as officials noted the area has seen five drownings in two years.

Bartender’s body found in Miami River

The body of Joseph Moore 32 son of the late Mrs Jennie Moore of 319 NW 17th St was recovered Tuesday afternoon from the Miami River near the North River Drive bridge. Authorities found no foul play and ruled the death accidental. Moore a bartender at the Harlem Square Club had been unsettled recently. He left work Saturday night after a long shift and disappeared in a taxi. Funeral services are planned for Saturday at 11 o’clock at B Solomon Funeral Home.

All Colored Drivers To Race At Medley

All Colored Drivers To Race At Medley Saturday night March 26 at 15 inaugurate the first all colored racing program in Florida. Medley Speedway owner Mr Mowry and Atlas Lodge No 08 sponsor an 8 event card for colored drivers and personnel with W O Perry Elks exalted ruler organizing the show. The program aims to draw many racing fans from Dade and surrounding counties as engines roar off the starter. A 2:00 p.m. meeting on Sunday March 6 at the Medley Speedway office invites interested drivers to enroll, with at least 10 cars needed. No sportsman or modified cars allowed, and a $1 000 purse is promised along with entertainment intermission acts from notable stars. Advance tickets handled by Atlas Lodge No 308 phone 80 2121.

Moore's Trial Date Set For March 28

Officer Sammie Moore of the Miami Police Dept faces first degree murder charges for the March 6 killing of his ex wife Bernice Moore. The trial, rescheduled from February 28 and then December, will proceed in Circuit Judge Charles A Carroll's court with Asst. State Atty. Gene Williams for the State and Atty. Henry Carr for the defense.
