Murder charge filed in fatal knife stabbing case
A first degree murder charge was filed Monday against Preston Smythe of 7030 NW 12th Ave for the fatal stabbing of 37 year old Lee Butler of 1558 NW thrst. The stabbing occurred Sunday night in a likely dispute at a local residence.

14 Year Old Boy Killed By School Mate at Booker T Washington
In Tampa a 14 year old student was stabbed to death by a schoolmate in the hall of Booker T Washington Junior High. Dean Rayford D Allen said a minor disagreement escalated rapidly the victim John White died before he could intervene. The assailant Ernest Gene Parker surrendered later with his mother at police headquarters. Parker told police we were just fighting. Both boys were described as troublemakers and former pals with a rumored argument over a girl.

Children Die in Fire near Marianna Arkansas
Seven children perished when a frame house burned seven miles south of Marianna. Pregnant mother Mrs. Viola Edwards burned critically while father Lonnie Edwards and two other children escaped. Names of the dead include Willie 13 Patricia Ann 8 Lula Jean 6 Garland 4 twins Joseph and Josephine 2 Jerome 1. Edwards said he awoke as flames engulfed the home.

Defense official lauds Evans for racial relations work
