Opening day for Miami public library set at 1.25 million
Monday marks the opening of Miami's 1.25 million dollar public library. City Manager A D F Bloodworth announced Tuesday that ribbon cutting will be held with Mayor Wolforth, the city commission, the library board, and Rep. Robert Floyd along with H Leslie Quigg and H. Gardner. The latter three served on the 1949 commission that advocated Bayfront Park site. A formal dedication program will follow.

Two Men Drown At Deerfield In Boca Raton Inlet Incident
Ike Young and Jesse James of Deerfield drowned when a skiff grounded and they swam ashore near the Boca Raton inlet on Thursday. A third man, Homer Carter, was rescued.

Housing head accuses city officials of killing slum redevelopment
J T Knight executive director of the Miami Housing Authority charged at a Washington conference that Dade county public officials who owned property in Negro slums allied with real estate interests to block a redeveloment program. He named Mayor William Wolforth and Commissioner Louis Bandel, saying elections with housing fee support shaped the vote. After the November 1949 election cooperation agreements were not presented, and a 3 2 vote defeated them with Holdover Commissioner William W Charles siding against Perrine Palmer Jr and Robert L Floyd.

The General Grand Accepted Brothers and Sisters of housing agreements since a referendum favoring the program last June. Wolforth Bandel and Commissioner Cecil E. Kirby replaced Floyd and refused. Love and Charity held its 51st annual convention with District Grand Tabernacle No. 4, Hon. John Burroughs, D. G. W. S., this week. Pre-convention program at Mt. Olivet Baptist church Monday evening drew an appreciative audience. Lively sessions were held at the Temple on Ilfth st and 3rd avenue Tuesday and Wednesday. All executive officers retained their seats.
