FTA To Invade Nassau For Annual Tourney

The 1948 Bahamas tennis championship matches will be held in Nassau on August 16 at the Montagu hotel courts under Colonial Secretary’s patronage with acting governor. Opening by A F Adderley and G W K Roberts. trophies by Mrs Adderley. Social events run July 31 to August 5 at local clubs. defending champions listed. An excursion by air via PAA from MIA to Nassau is planned for visitors, with up to 30 days stay possible.

Iron City mayor claims he routed Klan gang

Iron City Georgia mayor Cr. L. Drake says he single handedly routed Ku Klux Klan kidnappers last week and has reinforced his home with men and guns. He reports a flogging and vows a nightly vigil with three to five friends. Drake says the Klan has marked him as an enemy and that he is ready to fight.

Ebenezer Men's Day Largely Attended

The annual Ebenezer Church Men's Day last Sunday drew large crowds in morning and evening. Attorney John D. Johnson delivered the morning address on local conditions affecting Negroes, while Elliott J. Pieze spoke in the evening on Communism Versus Americanism. Both talks were well prepared and well received.
