Grove Slum Plan Adopted by City Commission
The Coconut Grove Slum Clearance Committee plan to rezone the Grove Negro area was adopted as a regular ordinance by the city commission on Monday with a referendum to appear in the November election. The measure, not an emergency, was approved 3 to 2 with Mayor Floyd, Palmer, and Quigg voting for it. Opponents were Gardner and Charles. The plan goes to the ballot while the city attorney approved the action amid charges it would worsen living conditions and rent. Builders Bouvier said he would maintain objections to the rezoning plan seeking single family units in the St. Albans tract.
